Stay or Go?
My boss asked me if I want to stay beyond the summer season and to be honest, I don't know. Mind that she asked me about two or three weeks ago to ensure that if no one stayed, she'd have to hire someone new for the Fall/Winter. Let's weigh it out.
Positives
+ Getting paid regularly
+ Opportunity to rent studio time in the fall
+ Meeting artists
+ Not living with parents = being self sufficient
+ The YMCA and their pool
Negatives
- No chance of moving up or getting paid more
- Summer co-workers/buddies going back to school
- If not busy = boring
- Facing difficult customers alone
- Can't go anywhere (no license/driving skills)
- Fall/Winter coldness. Burrr.
So I told her that I'm leaving the possibility open because I've already applied for the fall artist in residence at Ox-Bow (September/October) and Wheaton Arts (2008) and will also be applying for many positions for 2008. I've started to channel positive vibes to get in Ox-Bow, so who knows? I would be so ecstatic to get in, but what will be up after that? Moving back home?!! YIKES!!
I think that if I learn how to drive and rent a car from time to time, two to four more months of the WiW won't be TOO bad. Right?

This is only 1 person's opinion (who you respect, I hope):
The negatives of staying are far greater than the positives IMO. Having a steady job is great and all, but not hard to find. Finding one you like is another thing altogether though. You can meet artist anywhere. You can also (to a lesser extent) rent studio space anywhere. Yes I know its tons more expensive outside of Corning.
I think the biggest negative of you staying in corning is no room for growth, and if you were to get a raise, how much more can will they be willing to give you? You have to think about that long term stuff. And you're going to get lonely there very fast.
