Jury Duty and Yoga Class
A view from the 18th floor of the Brooklyn Court House
Yesterday was a day of firsts for me. I got summoned to do Jury Duty and what a unique experience! We watched an introductory video and the motto of Jury Duty turns out to be "YOUR TURN". WOW. They never once sugarcoated the fact that this civil service was fun, and bluntly told all of us that it's our obligation as U.S. citizens. That made me feel real good. I actually got to sit in the jury box by lottery to answer the little survey for the judge, prosecutor, and defendant lawyer. FUN! I even got some laughs in court. At the end of the day, I wasn't selected for the criminal case, but I got a really great coloring book from a children's bookstore nearby!!
It's like John Green made it specifically for me.
After my short civilian "work" day, I seized the opportunity to take a pay-as-you-wish yoga class in my neighborhood. It was amazing first class!! I love it. I even bought a mat and went again today! It was relaxing and I enjoyed pushing my body to get stronger. (My body is currently mush.) The rotating instructor Tara finished with a quote that really spoke to what has been up for me lately. I hope this will inspire you too.
"Don't ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and then go and do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive."
Harold Whitman
